Help I'm Planning a Birthday Party!

Planning a birthday party can be stressful but if you follow these tips, you’re sure to prepare a memorable event that everyone will enjoy!

Check the Calendar!

Many people schedule their weekend activities on Saturdays. Holding the birthday party on a Friday evening or Sunday afternoon will allow guests to attend without having to rearrange plans. Consider the guest of honor’s actual birthday and select an adjacent date. Celebrating in advance, a few days late, or on their actual birthday is up to you. Another factor to consider is large holidays and local events. For example, if your guest of honor is born on Christmas Day, celebrating a few weeks early or even after the New Year may allow more friends and family members to join in the fun.

It’s All About Timing

If your guest of honor is a party animal, consider starting the event later in the day so those celebrating can enjoy some libations. If you’re anticipating a tame shindig, you may have more flexibility on when to hold the festivities! If scheduling the event during lunch time, be prepared to offer more than appetizers and snacks; a full meal or heavy hors d’oeuvres will be expected. Children’s birthdays come with an additional level of time sensitivity as some may have a strict napping schedule. A great rule of thumb is to schedule the party for 2 hours. This gives late arrivals plenty of time to enjoy themselves and helps the host set expectations for all involved.

Select a Great Theme

Think of the person whose birthday you’re celebrating. Are they a Disney fanatic? Perhaps they love outer space. Regardless, make sure you’re gearing the event toward what THEY like and plan the party accordingly. From décor to favors, think about how you can incorporate their interests into the event.

Very Important Venue

Where you choose to hold the event will determine who will be able to attend and what activities you can provide. For example, if your venue offers indoor and outdoor options, you can consider anything from a DJ to a tethered hot air balloon! When selecting your venue, also think about the commute guests may have to endure and contemplate if a centralized location will be best. The Club is a great option for both indoor and outdoor gatherings and we even have a pool for those summertime parties!

Food Frenzy

Will light snacks and appetizers suffice, or do you need to offer a full meal? Unlike more formal functions which may feature plated meals, birthday parties nearly always offer a spread of items or a buffet for guests to choose from. Your theme will greatly impact your meal selections so be sure to tie it altogether with some great bites!

A birthday party wouldn’t be complete with out a sweet treat! A tiered cake or cupcakes may be the traditional choice, but once again, think about the guest of honor! If their favorite dessert is cannoli, cheesecake, or donuts, take the time to make sure they are on the menu.

We would be remiss if we didn’t add a note about dietary restrictions. Consider peanut allergies, gluten or dairy intolerances, and meat-free/vegan options when finalizing your selections. There are countless items that can fit within your theme and ensure your guests go home with a full tummy and a smile on their face.
